The Freedom Divided Plate combines the utility of a partitioned plate with the stability of the patented no-slip, no-spill vacuum pad.
People with disabilities like Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy often find that divided plates make eating easier for a number of reasons. The partitions help to keep the food in place instead of slipping and sliding all over the plate. This is especially the case for picky eaters who don’t want their food to touch.
The high-rising partitions of the Freedom Divided Plate give the user an edge when trying to scoop or stick foods, especially if they only have the use of one hand. Each divided plate has three sections with one measuring 6.5 by 3.5 inches and the other two measuring 4 by 3.5 inches. The plate has a 9-inch diameter to allow for plentiful portions and is 1.75 inches high.
Of course, the second factor that makes the Divided Plate so useful is the Suction Pad Base underneath that holds it squarely in one place on the table. This no-slip, no-spill vacuum pad sticks easily to any smooth, clean surface, and once in place, no amount of pushing or bumping will knock the plate over or make it slide.
For people with disabilities that affect their muscle strength and muscle control, the Suction Pad Base lets them rest their hands against the sides of the plate and stick food with one hand. Hand tremors and muscle spasms won’t make the plate slide. Keeping the plate in one solid position takes the struggle out of eating for people with a variety of disabilities: stroke, paralysis, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, and many more.
The Freedom Divided Plate is microwavable and top rack dishwasher safe, but the Suction Pad Base cannot be microwaved and must be hand washed. The plate screws onto the vacuum pad like a jam-jar lid. The recommended way to heat food is to microwave it in a separate plate then transfer it to the Freedom Divided Plate with the Suction Base Pad already underneath it.
